Catch a Tuesday

So I have a HUGE girl crush on Zooey Deschanel; her style, her humor, the look she gives right before she says what she is thinking...I think it's hilarious!  All that to say, I came across this video for Oliver Peoples, which is cute and fun.  This video looks like something I would do with my friends, so I thought I'd share.

anticipation

As I get closer and closer to moving in to my new place, the anticipation of a new place and space excites me.  My head is swirling with ideas for how to decorate my room, for my new morning running routes, for waking to the smell of the ocean & having a glass of wine with the view of the sunset over the ocean every evening....ahhhh.  Anyways, all of this excitement is making me feel inspired!  I've made a commitment to creating more...in anyway I can dream up!

Coincidentally, in accordance with my inspiration, I came across this great Ted talk from Paula Scher--totally inspiring in how even a super successful graphic designer and artist goes through the waves of having inspired, energized creativity, which she refers to as serious design, to doing rote monotonous work which she refers to as solemn design.  Check it out for yourself:

Kate Towers, part 3 of 3

I absolutely love Kate Towers and was so excited to share her!  These last images are from her Oregon Coast collection.  She is so talented and a true artist when it comes to women's clothing!  Her pieces are so delicate, beautiful, and feminine.  I love clothes that make me feel girly and feminine.

Loving this detail around the neck & this grey-purple is my favorite color!
These shorts are so precious!
This dress is my favorite!  I love the contrast of the red.
Wow...love this layering, ruffle heaven...yes please!

kate towers

I stumbled across this amazing designer once again while blog hopping and realized that I dragged some of these images into my inspiration folder ages ago, but forgot the designer.  I love love love everything about Kate Towers' designs.  Below is a montage of her Golden Hour collection.  When I came across Kate's website I nearly died because I would live in all of her creations if I could.  Everything is so romantic and lovely--I feel like that is the perfect way to describe Kate Towers.  I hope you enjoy these beautiful creations as much as I do!

valentino shoe crush

Okay, here are the ridiculous pumps I am lusting over still.  I'm contemplating whether to try them on the next time I'm in Nordstrom's or if that would just be torture...so tempting.  Enjoy!

shoulder pad influence

You cannot ignore the fact that shoulder pads are in for 2010, they are all over the runway.  I fell in love with this trend from the moment I betook a Balmain blazer with such shoulder pads.  I love beautiful construction and whimsical design.  Fashion has always been 'dressing up' to me, while determining what character I get to play each day.  I think there are a lot of influences that cause me to love these shoulders: Elizabethan times (think Emma/Pride & Prejudice films), the Disney princess characters' dresses, Michael Jackson--Thriller, and Sci Fi/aliens--think futuristic space suits.  So these shoulders are basically irresistible to me!

An obvious throw back to the 1980's, though the reinvention and resurgence of the shoulder pads of 2010 are done quite differently.  I prefer minimalism when it comes to the rest of the ensemble, in order to emphasize and highlight the statement the shoulder pads are making.

Take notice of the minimal/natural make-up paired with the 2010 shoulder-pads verses the big hair, big pants, and bright make-up of the 1980's--cringing at the thought of blue eye shadow.  Fashion in the 80's was all about being BIG, contemporary fashion (that I love) is about a look, a focus--please bear with me as I generalize here, but it's to make my point. ;)

Valentino RTW Spring 2010

I kept taking pause on this beautiful dress in an ad I've seen in multiple magazines lately.  This dress was soft, flowy, and beautiful, and I finally looked to see who it was by...Valentino.  So I had to research the whole collection...following are my personal faves from the Spring 2010 RTW collection.  Loving the color palette, the draping, the bows, and of course the ruffles & lace!

dressing for the oscars 2010

These were my favorites from the Academy Awards this year:

Demi is in an Atelier Versace tiered gown.

Diane Kruger is wearing Chanel Haute Couture.

Penelope Cruz is in a red, satin Donna Karan Couture gown.
Jennifer Lopez is in a pale pink Armani Prive gown.
Anna Kendrick is wearing an Elie Saab Haute Couture gown.

Viktor & Rolf: part 2

Feast your eyes on these gorgeous shoes! The lingerie inspired Spring 2010 line from Viktor & Rolf generated these beautiful creations. There is something ironic about walking in a big clunky heel that is actually feminine and beautiful. I really want these pink and lavender rosette-covered heels to strut around in.

All photos are from here.

Viktor & Rolf: part 1

I almost have to let the Spring 2010 collection from Viktor & Rolf speak for itself, because it is so out of this world, but I just can't. The creativity that goes into their design blurs the line between fashion and art, taking your eyes and your mind to new heights and dimensions of what constitutes a gown. I love it! The gowns featured above are my personal favorites from the collection, especially the two on the left. Some might describe Viktor & Rolf as bizarre or weird, but I love the ingenious fantasy that Viktor & Rolf enkindle in their design.

Monday is part 2....completely dedicated to Viktor & Rolf shoes....I know!!!! Just wait!

stores of the future

This morning I had an epiphany about retail stores of the future, very excited! A friend informed me about a pop-up store for a James Perse sale going on this weekend, which will be held in an old bank space nearby. This got me thinking.... If designers need to blow out tons of extra stock from a past season, they can have a pop-up store and have a huge sale. If the sale is big enough to draw in tons of people: the popularity of the brand goes up, designer/store makes more money than they would at a normal retail store on account of the limited overhead of basically just the rental fee of the space. With the current state of the economy, there are, sadly, tons of empty spaces that are available for these pop-up stores. Thus the pop-up store being the stores of the future. I'm probably not the first person who has thought about this, but it is genius! Happy sale sifting!
